Chantix

Varenicline (Chantix™) is one of the two FDA approved prescription quit smoking aids which works at the brain level to reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking, due to the physical dependence on nicotine.  

Several studies have shown Chantix can increase one's chances of successfully quitting smoking by more than three times. Some studies have shown that short term it might be twice as effective as bupropion, the other prescription drug, in helping to quit smoking.  

Chantix is a pill which should be taken after meals with a full glass of water. There are some possible side effects that can be experienced with it, and it has not been proven safe to be used during pregnancy. It should only be used under the supervision of a doctor.
