Zyban
Bupropion
(Zyban®) is a prescription anti-depressant which is also used to reduce symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
It does not contain nicotine but works at the brain level to decrease the craving for nicotine. Bupropion works if
use is begun 1 or 2 weeks before attempting to quit smoking.
Some doctors may
recommend using it in combination with nicotine replacement because in some individuals the combination seems to
work better in helping quit smoking, particularly in heavily addicted smokers.
Because Zyban can lower the seizure threshold, site and should not be taken if you have any history of seizure(s),
if you are a heavy drinker or if you've had any history of serious head injury. You should also not take Zyban if
you have bipolar disorder, bulimia or anorexia nervosa.
